Most of these transcriptions were made directly from the originals or microforms held by the Cumbria Archive Service at Carlisle. Some are from Bishops’ Transcripts – i.e. copies made as an annual return to the diocese by the incumbent.  I was given access to some baptism and marriage registers held in the circuit safe of the Kirkoswald and Alston Moor Methodist Circuit and these are published with the permission of the Methodist Church.

 

The process of copying can introduce mistakes, as can the process of transcription. I believe the transcripts to be very substantially correct but the original sources should be consulted if something seems amiss. I should be very pleased to hear of any errors found.
